The 2024 Republican National Convention kicked off in Milwaukee on Monday, amid an investigation into an attempted assassination of the GOP presumptive nominee, former President Donald Trump, as the incumbent Democratic President Joe Biden calls for a cooling of heated rhetoric.

The RNC was slated to officially begin at 12:35 p.m. Central, with its first convention session to run until 4:45 p.m. A second official session was to follow at 5:45 p.m. and last until 10 p.m.

A number of events outside of official convention times will also take place — with The Heritage Foundation’s Policy Fest: Fighting for America’s Future, a policy-centric event and a screening of “Reagan,” the 2024 Dennis Quaid-led biopic of the former president, among other events, is scheduled to take place throughout the day.

Trump is expected to make an appearance on Monday at the convention, despite his recent brush with death. The week-long event begins less than 48 hours aftershots were fired in Trump’s directionat his rally inButler, Pennsylvania,killing a rally attendee and wounding two others. The gunman, identified asThomas Crooks, 20, was killed by Secret Service agents moments later.

Noon - 1:30 p.m.: How AI Affects Women, Democracy and Elections - Presented by Microsoft; hosted by All In Together; located at Northern Lights Event Venue

12:45 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.: Official Session #1, hosted by the RNC, located at Fiserv Forum. The official convention watch party, also hosted by the RNC, will be held at the Drink Wisconsinbly Pub.

2 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.: Convention Fest: The Official Delegate Experience, hosted by the RNC, is located at the inner USSS Security Perimeter.

3 p.m. - 6 p.m.: The Lawyers’ Reception at the 2024 RNC Convention, hosted by the Republican National Lawyers Association, located at Husch Blackwell.

4 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.: Briefing and Reception: Celebrating the Asian American and Pacific Islander Electorate, hosted by Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote, located at Pilot Project Brewing.

4 p.m. - 7 p.m.: Veteran Candidate Mixer and Fundraiser, hosted by the National Defense Political Action Committee, at AJ Bombers and Bar Restaurant.

4 p.m. - 8 p.m.: American Global Strategies Reception, hosted by American Global Strategies, located at Third Coast Provisions.

4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.: Reception Honoring the Italian American Commitment to Public Service, hosted by the National Italian American Foundation, located at the Calderone Club.

5 p.m. - 8 p.m.: Power, Potential and Partnership - Presented by Microsoft, hosted by All In Together, located at Northern Lights Event Venue.

5:45 p.m. - 10 p.m.: Official Session #2, hosted by the RNC, will be held at Fiserv Forum. The official convention watch party, also hosted by the RNC, will take place at Drink Wisconsinbly Pub at the same time.

8 p.m. - 2 a.m.: Jamboree at the RNC featuring DJ Milk and Cooks, hosted by GOP Jamboree, located at Red, White and Blue Bar.

How to watch the RNC

Though the convention is not open to the public, an RNC spokesperson said the events can be streamed on YouTube, X, Facebook Live, Rumble, Amazon Prime, Twitch, and Direct TV.

Milwaukee’s City Channel will broadcast the convention beginning at 6 p.m. Monday. It will air 24/7 and end at midnight on July 19. Viewers can watch via Spectrum Cable on Channel 25 as well as on the “Livestream 1” feed here:https://city.milwaukee.gov/cityclerk/CityChannel.

Coverage of the convention by television networks will vary slightly. Here’s a breakdown of the major networks and their coverage plans:

  • C-SPANwill carry the entire convention uninterrupted for all four days.
  • CBStelevision stations will have live coverage starting at 10 p.m. ET all four days.
  • NBC Newswill broadcast “Decision 2024” live while it streams the program, from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. the first two nights of the convention, and from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. the final two nights.
  • ABC Newswill broadcast live from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. every day for four days on its main broadcast network, hosted by David Muir.
  • Fox Newswill air coverage during its regular prime-time lineup of shows, and will broadcast a nightly one-hour special starting at 10 p.m., hosted by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum.
  • CNNwill air live coverage at 2 p.m. Monday, when Trump is expected to be formally nominated via a roll call. The network will then have a combination of coverage and analysis each night from 8 p.m. to midnight, anchored by Jake Tapper and Anderson Cooper.
  • MSNBCwill broadcast a prime-time special from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday, hosted by Rachel Maddow. The network will have coverage from 8 p.m. to midnight on Wednesday and Thursday.
  • NewsNation will present special coverage of the RNC throughout the week, beginning Sunday, July 14,through Thursday, July 18. On Wednesday and Thursday, NewsNation will present “Decision Desk 2024: The Republican National Convention”from 7-12 a.m.
